Join the Sisters of St. Mary for our annual silent retreat led this year by the Rev. Linda St. Clair.
Time & Location
Jun 22, 2023, 5:00 PM CDT – Jun 25, 2023, 11:00 AM CDT
Ayres Center for Spiritual Development, 770 St Marys Ln, Sewanee, TN 37375, USA
About The Event
Come join us as we explore those connections, those ties that keep us conscious of the Divine within us and the Divine that surrounds us in creation.
We will begin by focusing on the Holy Spirit within each of us through prayer, meditation and offerings available through poetry, prose, scripture and the arts. The thread of Celtic Christian Spirituality will also be present as we recognize our natural surroundings and what many indigenous people refer to as “all our relations.”
Scripture supports this process, as do the contemporary works of John O’Donohue, Mary Oliver, Parker Palmer, Barbara Brown Taylor and Teilhard de Chardin, to name a few. Many more will emerge from our own journaling, reading and remembering those who have been our guides.
We will have opportunities to worship and to dine together, and enjoy solitude and silence of the Mountain on this retreat.
ABOUT THE RETREAT LEADER
Our retreat leader, the Rev. Dr. Linda St. Clair, comes to us after years of “tacking down the channel” literally and figuratively! She was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia but moved to California with her parents when she entered high school. Several academic degrees and lives later, across the U.S. and with a business career too, she returned to her hometown in 1993, to become an Anglican priest. Three years ago she left her retirement home on the Gulf Islands in the Northwest, to join her daughter and son-in-law’s family in Sewanee.
“Tacking down the channel” to Linda means that Ruach (Holy Spirit) seems to be moving her indirectly, like a breeze or wind moves a small sailboat back and forth, down a sea channel. She has been blessed with many human guides and experiences through retreats, workshops, books and pilgrimages. Linda has led and participated in lay and clergy retreats. She still strongly feels the impact of several of them: Iona, Jesuit Exercises and Retreats, the last retreat led by John O’Donohue.
Join us as we look and learn together about the ties that bind us to those spiritual lifelines and to the Trinity.
